About the Bilt Card Program
The updated Bilt Card Program includes three new credit cards, each designed to deliver high value rewards on rent, mortgage, and daily spend. These questions cover key details about how the program works - from earning points and making payments to choosing the card that best fits your lifestyle.
Which bank issues the Bilt Card? Who services the Bilt Card?

Will I earn points on rent and mortgage on all Bilt Card options?
Yes. With every Bilt Card, you can earn points on rent and mortgage payments, and you’ll never pay a transaction fee when you pay through Bilt. For maximum flexibility, you’ll now be able to choose one of the two options for how you want to be rewarded with the new Bilt Card 2.0: Flexible Bilt Cash or Housing-only rewards. See more details on how this works in the Bilt-exclusive Rewards Overview section below.
Will I earn Bilt Cash with all card options?
Yes. You can earn 4% back in Bilt Cash on everyday spend with all Bilt Cards when you select the Flexible Bilt Cash option as your Bilt-exclusive bonus rewards option.¹ All Bilt Members also earn $50 of Bilt Cash for every 25,000 points they earn toward elite status.
How do you make rent or mortgage payments with any of the new Bilt Cards?
With your Bilt Card, rent and mortgage payments made through Bilt are pulled directly from your linked bank account and do not use your credit line. This means that your credit line can stay available for everyday purchases. Simply link your bank account in your Bilt account, and your rent or mortgage payments will be debited from there while you can still earn rewards on those payments.
Which card should I choose?
You can apply for any of the cards in the new Bilt Card lineup. Each card offers different benefits, so choose the one that aligns with your spending habits and preferences.
Can I have multiple Bilt cards?
No. Each member can only have one Bilt Card at a time.
Can I add an authorized user on my new Bilt Card?
Yes. You can add authorized users to your account. Your authorized user will be able to accept their invitation on or after 2/7/26. By default, any rewards and Bilt Cash earned from an authorized user’s spending will accrue to the primary account holder. If you prefer, you can update your settings so that rewards accrue to the authorized user instead. The primary account holder will still remain responsible for all charges and use of the card, and can manage their authorized users directly in their Bilt account.
What if I want to cancel my Bilt Card?
To cancel your Bilt Card, call the customer service number on the back of the card or use the chat feature in your Bilt account. Closing your Bilt Card will stop you from earning rewards with the card, but your existing Bilt Points and Bilt Cash will remain in your account. As a reminder, you’ll remain a Bilt member and can continue using Bilt without the Bilt Card.
Who should I reach out to if I need help with my new Bilt Card?
To contact Bilt support about your Bilt Card, call the customer service number on the back of your card or send us a message via the chat function on bilt.com.
How do I temporarily turn off my Bilt Card?
You can lock and unlock your Bilt Card by visiting the Wallet tab, and tapping “manage” under your Bilt Card.
Bilt-exclusive Bonus Rewards Overview
In addition to your card earnings, choose one of the two Bilt-exclusive bonus reward options: Flexible Bilt Cash or Housing-only rewards. This section describes the differences between the two options.
Will I be charged a transaction fee on housing payments through Bilt?
Bilt cardholders will never be charged a transaction fee on housing payments, no matter which bonus rewards option you pick.
What is the difference between Flexible Bilt Cash and Housing-only rewards?
You can pick between two bonus rewards options:
Flexible Bilt Cash: With this option, you’ll earn 4% back in Bilt Cash on everyday purchases, in addition to the points earnings associated with each card.1 Bilt Cash is a flexible rewards currency that gives you even richer rewards across the Bilt ecosystem — use it dollar-for-dollar for monthly credits, or redeem to unlock up to 1X points on rent and mortgage payments through Bilt, with no transaction fee.
You can use Bilt Cash to unlock points on housing payments at a rate of $30 of Bilt Cash to 1,000 Bilt Points. Use as much of your available Bilt Cash as you want to unlock up to 1X points on housing payments, up to your payment amount. For example, on a $2,000 rent payment, redeeming $60 in Bilt Cash earns you the full 2,000 points. You must redeem your entire available Bilt Cash balance.
Housing-only rewards: Instead of earning Bilt Cash on your everyday spend, you’ll earn points on housing payments automatically, up to 1.25X. Your points multiplier increases based on how much you spend on your card each billing cycle—the more you use it for everyday purchases, the more points you earn on your housing payment made during the same billing cycle.¹
- Spend at least 25% of your monthly housing payments on everyday purchases, earn 0.5X points on your housing payments
- Spend at least 50% of your monthly housing payments on everyday purchases, earn 0.75X points on your housing payment
- Spend at least 75% of your monthly housing payments on everyday purchases, earn 1X points on your housing payments
- Spend the same or more of your monthly housing payments on everyday purchases, earn 1.25X points on your housing payments
If you don't reach the minimum spend threshold in a billing cycle, you’ll still earn 250 points on your housing payment through Bilt. You’ll be able to track your progress to each threshold clearly in the Bilt app each month.
How do I use Bilt Cash to unlock points on rent with no transaction fees?
With any Bilt Card, you have the option to use Bilt Cash to unlock points on rent and mortgage payments, always with no transaction fee, when you’ve selected the Flexible Bilt Cash rewards option. Selecting this option will enable you to earn 4% back in Bilt Cash on everyday spend.¹
What if I don’t want to earn Bilt Cash with my Bilt Card?
You can pick between two bonus rewards options to determine how you are rewarded on housing payments. If you don’t want to earn Bilt Cash, you’ll be able to select Housing-only rewards as your Bilt-exclusive bonus rewards option.
Instead of Bilt Cash, you’ll earn Bilt Points on everyday spend associated with your card, and up to 1.25X points on housing payments automatically.¹
What is the default Bilt-exclusive bonus rewards option?
If you do not choose Flexible Bilt Cash as your bonus rewards option during card onboarding, your bonus rewards will be defaulted to Housing-only. In your first statement period, you can switch your bonus rewards one time to Flexible Bilt Cash, which will take effect immediately. After your first statement period, any changes to your selected Bilt-exclusive bonus rewards option will take effect during the following statement period. See Offer Terms for more details.
How is my point multiplier calculated if I pick Housing-only rewards?
With Housing-only rewards, how many points you earn on rent or mortgage payments depends on how much you use your card for everyday purchases during the same billing cycle.
At the end of each billing cycle, we look at:
- Your housing payment amount, and
- Your everyday spend during that same billing cycle
That comparison determines which points multiplier you qualify for (up to 1.25X) on housing payments made during that cycle. Because your spending can change, your multiplier can change month to month. Points earned on housing payments are dropped into your account after your statement closes.
As an example, let’s say you make a $2,000 rent payment on April 5. You spend $1,500 on everyday purchases during that billing cycle (March 28–April 27). Since you spent 75% of your rent amount on everyday purchases, you qualify for 1X points on your rent payment.
That means you’ll earn 2,000 points, which will be added to your Bilt Rewards account after your statement closes around April 28.
Can I request a credit line increase?
At this time, credit line increases are not available for Bilt Card 2.0 products. We hope to offer this feature soon and will keep Bilt cardholders updated as new options become available.
Earning Bilt Cash with the Bilt Cards
When you use a Bilt Card, you have the option to earn even more than just Bilt Points. Bilt Cash gives you flexible, dollar-for-dollar value across the Bilt ecosystem and unlocks access to additional benefits across Bilt. This section explains how you can earn Bilt Cash with your card and all the ways you can use it.
What is Bilt Cash and how does it work?
Bilt Cash is a flexible rewards currency–separate from Bilt Points–that gives you dollar-for-dollar value to use at Bilt partner merchants and exclusive access to experiences and benefits that points can’t buy. Bilt Cash does not replace Bilt Points. Instead, it complements Bilt Points to offer even more value and unparalleled flexibility across the Bilt ecosystem.
How do I earn Bilt Cash?
Every Bilt member, including cardholders, earns $50 in Bilt Cash every time they earn 25,000 Bilt Points toward elite status. Each time a member hits that 25,000 point milestone, Bilt Cash will be unlocked and ready to use. You can view your Bilt Cash balance and your progress toward your next $50 milestone in the wallet tab.
If you have any of the Bilt Cards, you can also opt to earn 4% back in Bilt Cash on everyday purchases¹ — making the Bilt Card one of the most rewarding ways to earn as you spend. To earn 4% back in Bilt Cash, you will need to select “Flexible Bilt Cash” as your Bilt-exclusive bonus rewards option.
How much Bilt Cash do I earn with each card?
Bilt cardholders can opt to earn 4% back in Bilt Cash on everyday purchases with any Bilt Card by choosing Flexible Bilt Cash as your Bilt-exclusive bonus rewards option.1 There is no limit to how much Bilt Cash you can earn.
What's the difference between Bilt Points and Bilt Cash?
Bilt Cash works alongside Bilt Points, with each earning you value in different ways.
- Bilt Points: Valuable, transferable points you can earn on rent, mortgage payments, and other eligible spending. Their value varies based on how you redeem them, whether for travel, experiences, or even a future home down payment.
- Bilt Cash: A dollar-for-dollar rewards currency you earn on everyday spending (excluding rent and mortgage payments). $1 of Bilt Cash is $1 in value, and can be used directly throughout the Bilt ecosystem at our merchant partners.
You earn both rewards currencies with your Bilt Card if you choose Flexible Bilt Cash as your Bilt-exclusive bonus rewards option.
Where can I use Bilt Cash?
You can use Bilt Cash for both dollar-for-dollar value across the Bilt ecosystem and early access to select experiences.
- Dollar for dollar value: Redeem your Bilt Cash for monthly or annual credits across the Bilt ecosystem, up to applicable limits.
- Access: Use Bilt Cash to unlock access to elevated rewards, exclusive experiences, and benefits that money can’t buy.
For more information, visit our dedicated Bilt Cash article here.
When do I receive my annual Bilt Cash benefits?
If you hold the Palladium Card, you’ll receive an annual Bilt Cash bonus as part of your benefits. This bonus is automatically credited to your Bilt account upon account opening or around January 1st of each subsequent calendar year.¹
Can Bilt Cash expire?
Yes. Your Bilt Cash will expire at the end of the calendar year, though you can carry over up to $100 into the next calendar year.
How do I redeem Bilt Cash?
Bilt Cash can be redeemed seamlessly at checkout within the Bilt app or on bilt.com whenever you make an eligible purchase.

Setting up Bilt Card Authorized Users
You can add up to five (5) authorized users to your Bilt Card account. This section answers frequently asked questions about authorized users, including fees and account management.
Who can I add as an authorized user?
Partners, family, and teens 13 and up who you have a relationship with and whose details you can provide. As the primary cardholder, you remain responsible for what they spend. Teens accounts between the ages of 13 and 17 are managed entirely by the primary cardholder.
Am I responsible for charges made by authorized users?
Yes. As the primary cardholder, you are fully responsible for all charges made by authorized users on your account. This includes all purchases, fees, and interest charges (see rates and fees). Make sure you trust anyone you add as an authorized user.
How do I add authorized users to my Bilt Card?
To add an authorized user to your Bilt Card, visit the Wallet tab, then tap “add an authorized user.” You’ll be asked to enter the authorized user’s information:
- Their first and last name
- Their email address
- Their date of birth
Once submitted, an email will be sent to the authorized user with an invitation to accept your invite and create a Bilt account (or sign in to their existing account). Once accepted, their account will be linked to yours, and you’ll be able to manage their account directly in the app.
The authorized user must accept the invitation in order to activate their physical card. Their physical card will be shipped to the primary address on your account. Please note the authorized user needs to accept the invitation before they can start using their card.
What are the authorized user annual fees associated with each Bilt Card?
- Bilt Blue Card: No authorized user fee
- Bilt Obsidian Card: $50 per authorized user annually
- Bilt Palladium Card: $95 per authorized user annually
The annual fee will be charged to the primary cardholder at the end of the current statement period. See rates and fees here.
How many authorized users can I add to my account?
You can add up to five (5) authorized users to your Bilt Card account.
What is the minimum age requirement for authorized users?
The minimum age for an authorized user is currently 13 years old. For authorized users between the ages of 13 and 17, the primary cardholder activates and manages the card, including setting spending limits and categories, and remains responsible for all purchases and payments. Authorized users between the ages 13 and 17 are unable to create a Bilt account.
Whose credit report will authorized user activity appear on?
Authorized user activity is reported under the primary cardholder’s credit report. For authorized users above the age of 18, reporting to their own credit report is coming soon. The primary cardholder is ultimately responsible for all charges made on the account.
What account controls does the primary cardholder have for authorized users?
The primary cardholder can manage the following directly in the Bilt app:
- Pause spending: Temporarily stop new purchases for this user.
- Choose who earns rewards: Keep the Bilt Points and Bilt Cash earned from their purchases, or let them earn rewards in their own Bilt account.
- View all transactions: See all transactions across your account, including those made by authorized users.
- Spend controls: Set monthly or per-transaction spending limits. Or decide which merchant types their card works at.
- Separate card numbers: Each authorized user gets their own physical credit card number. Please note that authorized users between the ages of 13 and 17 will not get access to a virtual card
- Housing payments with the Bilt Card: Authorized users, above the age 18, can use their Bilt Card to make rent and mortgage payments. They will earn rewards based on the rewards setting set on the primary cardholder’s account (Flexible Bilt Cash or Housing-only).
How long does it take for an authorized user card to arrive?
Authorized user cards typically arrive within 7-10 business days after the authorized user has been added. For specific timing, please contact customer service.
Do authorized users get the same card benefits as the primary cardholder?
Authorized users receive a physical card with the same earning structure as the primary cardholder's card. However, certain premium benefits may be limited to the primary cardholder.
- Obsidian Card: Authorized users earn points at Obsidian Card rates but do not receive the annual travel credit.
- Palladium Card: Authorized users earn points at Palladium Card rates and receive Priority Pass access, but do not receive the annual travel credit or Bilt Cash credit.
Will my authorized user earn and redeem rewards?
By default, Bilt Points and any Bilt Cash earned from an authorized user's spending will accrue to the primary cardholder's Bilt account. However, you can update your settings at any time so that rewards accrue to the authorized user instead. Based on those settings, your authorized user may be able to redeem rewards they’ve earned as an authorized user within their own Bilt account.
Can authorized user spending count toward the primary cardholders everyday spend threshold when Housing-only is selected?
Yes. When Housing-only is selected, everyday spending and housing payments across the primary cardholder and all authorized users are combined to calculate the everyday spend ratio, which sets the points rate on housing payments. So, an authorized user's spending may help lift the housing point multiplier for everyone on the account. Points earned on an authorized user's housing payment are credited based on the rewards allocation the primary cardholder has set for that authorized user.
Can authorized users pick their own Bilt-exclusive bonus rewards option?
No. Authorized users follow the primary cardholder’s selected Bilt-exclusive bonus rewards option (Flexible Bilt Cash vs Housing-only). This means authorized user spending earns rewards under the same bonus structure selected by the primary cardholder.
How does spending show up when there are multiple spenders on the account?
Once an authorized user accepts their invitation, the primary cardholder can see all authorized user transactions in their Bilt app, alongside their own purchases. Authorized users will see their own transactions in their Bilt account once accepted.
Can authorized users make changes to the account?
No. Authorized users can make purchases with the card but cannot make account changes such as adding additional authorized users, closing the account, or changing account settings. Only the primary cardholder can manage the account.
How do I remove an authorized user from my account?
You can remove authorized users from your Bilt Card account directly in the Bilt app via “Manage authorized users”.
How do I track authorized user spending?
You can track authorized user spending through your monthly statements and by logging into your Bilt account. Transactions will show which card was used, allowing you to identify purchases made by authorized users.
Can I temporarily lock an authorized user's card?
Yes, you can temporarily lock an authorized user’s card in the Bilt app.
How do I report a lost or stolen authorized user card?
Report a lost or stolen authorized user card immediately by calling the customer service number on the back of the card or via the chat feature in your Bilt account. You can also report a lost card and order a new one by visiting the Wallet tab.
Can I add an authorized user younger than 13 years old?
No. Authorized users may only be 13 years of age or older.

If I rent and own at the same time, will I be able to earn points with my Bilt Card on both properties?
Yes. You can pay rent or mortgage for multiple homes through Bilt and earn rewards on eligible housing payments based on the Bilt-exclusive rewards option you select. See Offer Terms.
Do rent or mortgage payments count toward my Bilt Card credit line?
You can make rent and mortgage payments without using your credit line—funds are pulled from your linked bank account within 24 hours, keeping your spending power available for everyday purchases. This means:
- Your full housing payment amount is withdrawn from your linked bank account, and does not reduce your card’s available credit
- Your credit utilization isn’t impacted, since the housing payment transaction doesn’t increase your credit card balance
- You can still earn points on eligible rent and mortgage payments based on the Bilt-exclusive rewards option you select. See Offer Terms
I make rent or mortgage payments in a payment portal outside of Bilt. Can I still use my Bilt Card?
Yes. If you don’t live in a Bilt Alliance property or have your mortgage serviced by UWM, you’ll use BillPay to pay your rent or mortgage. This will give you the ability to pay your rent on a 3rd party portal, with Venmo, PayPal, or check. You can find instructions on how to pay with BillPay HERE.
My property manager or mortgage servicer only accepts checks. Can I still use my Bilt Card?
Yes, by using BillPay in your Bilt account. Bilt will issue a check on your behalf and send it directly to your property manager.
How do I make rent payments when I live within the Bilt Alliance?
If you pay rent and live in a Bilt Alliance property, you’ll make payments directly in your Bilt account.
- Log into your Bilt account
- Go to the “My Home” tab
- Submit your payment through your Bilt Payment Center
- Select your Bilt Card if you have one.
- Finalize your payment (note: your rent payment will be pulled directly from your linked bank account)
- You’ll earn rewards depending on which Bilt-exclusive bonus reward you have active (see Offer Terms)
When are rent and mortgage payments pulled from my bank account?
Once you make a rent or mortgage payment, your payment will be pulled from your linked bank account within 24 hours.
Can I set up autopay for rent and mortgage payments?
Yes. You can set up automatic payments in the Home tab on the Bilt app or website.
My Wells Fargo Bilt Mastercard® is turned off. Can I still pay rent with Bilt?
All Wells Fargo Bilt Mastercard® (card 1.0) cards will be deactivated on 2/7. To pay rent through Bilt, you will need to pay with a linked bank account, or via other methods including Venmo, PayPal, or check.
Product Upgrades
Eligible Bilt Cardholders may be able to upgrade their Bilt Card. Below you'll find answers to common questions about upgrading your Bilt Card, from eligibility and timing to fees, rewards, and what happens to your account.
As of September 18, 2026, product upgrades are in Beta to select cardholders and are rolling out in phases. We'll notify Bilt Members as soon as they're widely available.
How do I know if I'm eligible to upgrade?
Log in to your Bilt account and navigate to your Bilt Card settings. Under the ‘Account’ section, you may see an option to upgrade your card. From there, you'll see the Bilt Cards you can upgrade to and can select the one you want.
Eligibility is specific to each card, so an offer may be available for one card and not another. If you select a card and there's no offer available for it at that time, it means you're not eligible to upgrade to that card right now. Eligibility is reviewed regularly, so it's worth checking back.
Please note, upgrades are not permitted before your first statement closes.
Can I upgrade my Bilt Card without closing my current Bilt Card account and reapplying?
Yes. You can upgrade to a different Bilt Card while keeping your existing account. You do not need to cancel your current card and apply for a new one. Your account history stays intact, so you keep the credit history you've built, and there’s no new hard credit inquiry on your credit report.
Which cards can I upgrade to?
If you currently have the Blue Card, you may be eligible for an upgrade to the Obsidian or Palladium Card. If you currently have the Obsidian Card, you may be eligible for an upgrade to the Palladium Card.
Can my authorized user request an upgrade?
Only the primary cardholder can request a product change. Authorized users move to the new card automatically when the primary makes the change.
Do I need to submit a new application?
No. Upgrading your Bilt Card does not require a new application. You may be asked to verify your information. Your Bilt account, all the points you’ve previously earned, and your credit history will all carry over to your new card.
How do I upgrade my card?
Navigate to your Bilt Card settings and select the upgrade option. Choose the card you want to move to, then review its benefits, annual fee, and terms. If you are eligible for that card, you can confirm the change request, and we'll process it and let you know when it's complete.
What happens to my authorized users?
When you upgrade your card, your authorized users are upgraded too. They'll receive new cards and the benefits of your new tier, and any applicable authorized user fees are adjusted to match the card you upgrade to.
If you'd prefer not to bring an authorized user to your new card, remove them before you upgrade. You can do this in the Wallet tab under Manage authorized users.
How long does the upgrade take?
Most upgrades are processed the same day. You'll see a pending status in the Bilt app while it's in progress, and you'll be notified once it's complete via email.
Can I cancel my upgrade while it's processing?
Once you've confirmed the upgrade, it can't be cancelled mid-processing. If you change your mind after it completes, you can reverse it by reaching out to Cardless Support at (888) 533-5576.
Will my credit limit change when I upgrade?
At this time, your credit limit stays the same when you change cards. Your limit may still be reviewed and adjusted separately as part of our normal account reviews.
How often can I change my card?
You can make one upgrade in a 12-month period, measured from the date of your last change.
Will I get a new physical card and card number?
Yes. A new card will be issued and mailed to you automatically when your upgrade is complete. Your new physical card will have the same number as your old card with a different expiration date and CVV.
Can I still use my current Bilt Card while the new one is on the way?
Yes. Your current card keeps working until you activate your new one. Once you activate your new physical card, your previous physical is automatically deactivated.
This applies to your physical card only, and your virtual card number stays the same and keeps working without interruption.
Can I start using my new card benefits right away?
Yes. Your new benefits are active as soon as the upgrade is complete. You don't need to wait for the new physical card to arrive. Keep using your current card and you'll earn your new benefits on it in the meantime.
What happens to my annual fee when I upgrade?
You'll see two separate line items on your statement: 1) the full annual fee for your new card, and 2) a separate refund (full or prorated) of your old card's annual fee. Both post approximately 45 days after your upgrade is complete.
The refund amount depends on when you upgrade:
- If within 30 days of your current card's fee posting, you get a full refund of that fee. For example if your current card's annual fee is posted on March 28th and you upgrade on April 10th, you will receive a full refund.
- After 30 days, you get a prorated refund for the unused portion of your year. For example if your current card's annual fee is posted on March 28th and you upgrade on April 29th, you will receive a prorated refund based on the time remaining in your current card year.
See Rates & Fees.
Does my card anniversary date change when I upgrade?
Yes. The anniversary date of your card is updated to the end of the statement cycle that follows your new card's annual fee posting date. Your card anniversary date is your new annual fee billing date, and your annual fee will renew each year from that new date.
I already got a welcome bonus. Do I get an upgrade bonus for my new card?
When you upgrade to another Bilt Card, you are eligible to receive an upgrade bonus as indicated in the Bilt app or website at the time of your upgrade. The exact bonus depends on which card you upgrade to and is subject to the Bilt Card Offer Terms.
I have the Obsidian Card. What happens to my Bilt Hotel credits?
You receive the difference in credits when you upgrade to the Palladium Card right away, less anything already received under your Obsidian Card during the same period. Because these credits are distributed semi-annually, the difference is based on the current period's amount, not the full annual total.
For example, say you've already received your $50 Obsidian hotel credit for the current period. When you upgrade to Palladium, on which the credit for that same period is $200, you receive the $150 difference rather than the full $200 on top of what you already received. Going forward, you'll receive your full Palladium hotel credit each period.
Will upgrading my Bilt Card interrupt any autopay (rent or card payments) that I have set up on my existing Bilt Card?
No. Your autopay settings carry over when you upgrade. Your scheduled card payments and any housing payments you've set up through Bilt continue as normal, with no action needed from you. Once your upgrade is complete, we recommend checking your autopay settings in the app to confirm everything is in place.
Do I need to update recurring payments or digital wallets?
When your new card is ready, it's worth reviewing any recurring payments or saved card details to make sure everything's up to date. Your card in mobile wallets like Apple Pay or Google Pay will continue to work.
If you have payments saved directly with a merchant, check that your card information is current so those payments aren't interrupted.
What happens to pending transactions, returns, disputes, and existing balances?
Nothing changes. Your pending transactions, returns, disputes, and balances all stay with your account. Everything continues right where it is, with no action needed from you.
What if my upgrade request is declined?
If you select a card and there's no offer available for it at that time, it means you're not eligible to upgrade to that card right now. Eligibility is reviewed regularly, so it's worth checking back.
Product Downgrades
Bilt Obsidian and Palladium Cardholders are able to downgrade their Bilt Card. Below you'll find answers to common questions about downgrading your Bilt Card, from eligibility and timing to rewards, what happens to your account, and more.
Can I downgrade my Bilt Card?
Yes. If you have the Obsidian or Palladium Card, you can downgrade to a lower tier Bilt Card. You do not need to cancel your current card or apply for a new one. Your account history stays intact, so you keep the credit history you've built, and there's no new hard credit inquiry.
How do I downgrade my card?
Downgrades are handled through the Cardless Support team. Reach out to Cardless support at (888) 533-5576 and an email will be sent with a secure link to complete your downgrade in the Bilt app. There, you'll review your new card's benefits, annual fee, and terms, and then confirm the change.
What cards can I downgrade to?
If you currently have the Obsidian Card, you can downgrade to the Blue Card. If you currently have the Palladium Card, you can downgrade to the Obsidian or Blue Card.
Do I need to submit a new application?
No. Downgrading your Bilt Card does not require a new application. You may be asked to verify your information. Your Bilt account, all the points you’ve previously earned, and your credit history will all carry over to your new card.
Can my authorized user request a downgrade?
Only the primary cardholder can request a product change. Authorized users automatically move to the new card when the primary account holder makes the change.
What happens to my authorized users?
When you downgrade your card, your authorized users are downgraded, too. They'll receive new cards and the benefits of your new tier, and any applicable authorized user annual fees are adjusted to match the card you upgrade to.
If you'd prefer not to bring an authorized user to your new card, remove them from your Bilt Card account before you downgrade. You can do this in the Wallet tab under Manage authorized users.
How long does the downgrade take?
Most downgrades are processed the same day that you apply. You'll see a pending status in the Bilt app while it's in progress, and you'll be notified via email once it's complete.
If I change my mind, can I cancel my downgrade while it's processing?
Once you've confirmed the downgrade, it can't be cancelled while it's processing. Downgrades can't be reversed once complete, so you should make sure you want the change before you submit. If you later decide you want a higher-tier card, you can request an upgrade when you're eligible, subject to the once-per-12-months limit on product changes.
Will my credit limit change when I downgrade?
At this time, your credit limit stays the same when you change cards. Your limit may still be reviewed and adjusted separately as part of our normal account reviews.
Will I get a new physical card and card number?
Yes. A new card will be issued and mailed to you automatically when your downgrade is complete. Your new physical card will have the same number as your old card with a different expiration date and CVV.
Can I still use my current Bilt Card while the new one is on the way?
Yes. Your current card keeps working until you activate your new one. Once you activate your new physical card, your previous physical is automatically deactivated.
This applies to your physical card only, and your existing virtual card number stays the same and keeps working without interruption.
Can I start using my new card benefits right away?
Yes. You don't need to wait for the new physical card to arrive. Keep using your current card and you'll earn your new benefits on the current card in the meantime.
What happens to my annual fee when I downgrade?
Depending on how soon you downgrade after your current card's annual fee posts, you may receive a refund on your current card’s annual fee.
If within 30 days of your current card's fee posting, you get a full refund of the annual fee.
- Moving to the Blue Card: Your annual fee is refunded, and the Blue Card has no annual fee.
- Moving from the Palladium to Obsidian Card: Your $495 Palladium Card annual fee is refunded in full, and a prorated Obsidian fee is charged for the rest of your card year.
Please keep in mind that downgrading within 30 days of your current card’s fee posting is also the window where your welcome bonus and any used credits are reversed. See the question “Am I eligible for the new card’s welcome bonus when I downgrade?” below.
After 30 days, the annual fee from your existing Bilt Card will not be refunded.
- Moving to the Blue Card: no annual fee going forward.
- Moving from the Palladium to Obsidian Card: the $95 Obsidian Card annual fee is charged at your next card anniversary, not right away.
See Rates & Fees.
Does my card anniversary date change when I downgrade?
No. The anniversary date of your Bilt Card does not change when you downgrade.
Am I eligible for my new card’s welcome bonus when I downgrade?
This depends on when you downgrade your card, relative to your annual fee posting.
If you downgrade within 30 days of your current card's annual fee posting, your current card's welcome bonus is reversed and your new card's welcome bonus is issued in its place, which may cause your Bilt Cash or Bilt Points balance to go below zero.
For example, if you downgrade from the Palladium Card to the Obsidian Card, your $300 of Bilt Cash welcome bonus is reversed and $200 of Bilt Cash for the Obsidian Card welcome bonus is issued in its place. If you redeemed all or part of your $300 of Bilt Cash, your Bilt Cash balance may go negative. If you earned the 50,000 Bilt Points and Gold Elite Status from meeting the Palladium Card spend requirement, those are reversed too, and your points balance may go negative until it's brought back up. Any Elite Status you earned on your own, outside the welcome bonus, stays with you.
After 30 days, you keep the welcome bonus you already earned, and no new bonus is issued.
I have the Palladium Card and want to downgrade. What happens to my annual Bilt Cash and Bilt Hotel credit?
This depends on when you downgrade your card, relative to your annual fee posting.
If you downgrade within 30 days of your current card's annual fee posting, any hotel credit you've redeemed is charged back to your card, and any annual Bilt Cash you've used is deducted from your Bilt Cash balance, which may leave your balance below zero. Any hotel credit you haven't used yet is removed and a new hotel credit is issued if you downgrade to the Obsidian Card.
After 30 days, you keep both your $200 annual Bilt Cash and Bilt Hotel credit until your next card anniversary. Your credits then step down to your new card's amounts at your next anniversary. If you downgrade to the Obsidian Card, you’ll get a $100 annual Bilt Hotel credit and no annual Bilt Cash. If you downgrade to the Blue Card, there are no annual credits.
I have the Obsidian Card and want to downgrade. What happens to my annual Bilt Hotel credit?
This depends on when you downgrade your card, relative to your annual fee posting.
If you downgrade within 30 days of your current card's fee posting, any hotel credit you've redeemed is charged back to your card and any hotel credit you haven't used yet is removed.
After 30 days, you keep your Bilt Hotel credit until your next card anniversary and receive your new card benefits at your next card anniversary.

For example, the Bilt Palladium Card earns 2X points on everyday purchases. During this promotion, eligible purchases would earn an additional 2X bonus points to bring the total to 4X. For a purchase to qualify for double points, the merchant must submit the charge to your card as having been made within the promotional period (12:00 AM ET – 11:59 PM PT on the 1st of the month). Bilt does not have the ability to control how or when a merchant submits charges.
Can authorized users earn double points?
Yes. Authorized users can earn double points on everyday purchases made with their Bilt Card on the 1st of the month, with their own 1,000 bonus point monthly cap.3
How are bonus points earned by an authorized user’s spend allocated?
It depends on the points allocation setting established by the primary cardholder. If the primary cardholder has designated that the authorized user’s points be credited to the primary cardholder’s Bilt account, then bonus points will be posted there. If the primary cardholder has designated that the authorized user’s points be credited to the authorized user’s Bilt account, then bonus points will be posted there.
Do double points apply to housing payments?
